Glynn David Smith, age 88, oilfield roughneck and engineer was born on November 20, 1936, in Orange, Texas to Lyle E. Smith, Sr. and Ruth Alton Roark and passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025.

Private funeral services for Glynn David Smith were held on Friday, October 24, 2025, in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel in Melville, La. Pastor Grant Chustz conducted the service.

Glynn grew up in Baton Rouge, LA and graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1954. After working in the oilfields and serving on active Army reserve duty during the Cuban and Berlin Crisis, he graduated from LSU with a degree in Petroleum Engineering in August of 1963. In 1968, he married his longtime sweetheart, Annie Bell Fletcher, of Melville, Louisiana and moved to Bahrain to begin a life outside the USA. During Glynn’s career in foreign operations, he and Annie Bell lived in eight countries and worked in or visited a total of 60 different countries around the world. Glynn was a 1979 Stanford graduate of the School of Business Executive Program. Glynn and Annie Bell enjoyed art and spent considerable time collecting artworks mostly from the USA and Europe.

Glynn is survived by his loving wife, Annie Bell; his younger brother, Jerry Smith; his sister-in-law, Ruby LeBlanc; his brothers-in-law, George Fletcher (Linda) and John Fletcher and a host of nieces and one nephew.

He is preceded in death by parents, Lyle Edward Smtih and Ruth Roark Smith; his oldest brother, Lyle who passed away in 1964 and his brother-in-law, Floyd Fletcher.
