Golston "Bill" Morgan Stout, a cherished member of the community, peacefully passed away on May 31, 2024
at his son’s residence in Gastonia, North Carolina. Bill led a remarkable life filled with diverse
accomplishments and unwavering dedication to his loved ones.
Born on May 14, 1936, in Nashville, Tennessee, Bill's adventurous spirit led him to excel in various fields. A
proud alumnus of Cohn High School in Nashville and the University of Tennessee-Nashville, he always valued
education and learning throughout his life.
Bill served his country as a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, demonstrating his deep-rooted love for
America. His commitment to his military service was a testament to his strong character and sense of duty.
Throughout his career as the former owner of Steve's Drive-In Market and later, Huntingdon Termite and Pest
Control, Bill showcased his entrepreneurial skills and work ethic. His success in these ventures reflected his
tenacity and passion for excellence.
Bill was a strong believer in community service and practiced it with dedication and enthusiasm. He was a
former mayor of Huntingdon and served as president of numerous civic organizations including the Rotary
Club, the Quarterback Club, the Carroll County Republican Party, among others.
Gregarious by nature, Bill had an infectious sense of humor that could light up any room. Family and friends
fondly remember him for his entertaining anecdotes that always brought joy and laughter to those around him.
A devoted follower of University of Tennessee football, Bill and his wife Betsy attended hundreds of games,
both home and away, and were season ticket holders for over forty years.
Beyond professional achievements, Bill's proudest accomplishment was his son Steve and their loving family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Willie Frank Stout and Etta Mai Hand Stout, as well as his beloved
wife of 55 years, Betsy Ann Gateley Stout. He is also reunited in heaven with his siblings Beverly Buttrey, Pat
Hogue, and Bobbie Sue Harris.
Bill will be dearly missed by his surviving family: his devoted son Stephen Gateley Stout and daughter-in-law
Shannon; grandchildren Morgan Snegon (Joe), Sam Stout (Lindsay), Andrew Foor, Jr. (Madison), William Foor,
Elizabeth Foor; great-grandchildren Grant Snegon, Madeline Snegon, Anna Hope Snegon, Gwyn Stella Stout;
and a special nephew Brian Buttrey (Cindy).
A man of faith, Bill was a cherished member of Huntingdon Church of Christ in Tennessee where he found
solace and community.
His legacy will endure through the countless lives he touched with love and laughter. Bill leaves behind a
profound impact on all who knew him.
The services honoring Bill's life will be held at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home and Cremation in Gastonia
on June 8th with visitation starting at 1:00 PM followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM. with military
honors by the U.S. Marine Corp and the Gaston County Honor Guard.
In loving memory of Bill Stout - a beacon of light whose spirit will live on forever in our hearts.
