Gordon James Denno
Beloved husband of Eileen Denno and devoted father of Marc Denno and Brian (Susan) Denno. Loving grandfather of Drew Denno, Alyssa Denno, Matthew (Mariah) Denno, and Amanda Denno. Brother to Joyce Denno. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Bertha Denno and the mother of his children Marilyn Denno.
Gordon proudly served in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps from 1968 to 1988, earning numerous honors, including the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, and Army Commendation Medal and retiring as a Major. It gave him great pride to see his sons (Marc, CAPT USN and Brian, CPT USAR/MOANG) and his grandson (Drew, Lt Commander USN) following in his footsteps and together having more than 70 years of military service.
He earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from the Illinois School of Podiatric Medicine, now the Dr. William M. Scholl School of Podiatric Medicine. Following his military retirement, Dr. Denno returned to academia as a Professor of Surgery at both Scholl and Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, where he taught for many years. Dr. Denno served as Chairman, Department of Medicine and Department of Surgery.
Gordon was an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. Two generations followed with both of his sons and grandson Matthew also achieving Eagle Scout.
Gordon had a lifelong love of classical music and was an avid amateur radio operator since high school, holding the call sign AEØDR. He was an active member of his local amateur radio club, sharing his knowledge with those pursuing their own licenses. Gordon was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and along with Eileen, a faithful parishioner at Sts. Joachim and Ann Catholic Church.
