Dr. Gordon S. Gibb – died peacefully Saturday, September 14 at the Brightview Concord River Assisted Living in Billerica with family at his side.
He was born January 12, 1929 in Garden City, Province of Camaguey, Cuba. He was taken from Cuba by a nurse to Washington, D.C. six months later, he was met by his grandmother, Clara Whitney who brought him to her home in N. Billerica.
Gordon was educated in the Billerica School System graduating in 1946. He worked for the A&P Grocery Store before enrolling in the Massachusetts College of Podiatry in 1951. He graduated in 1955 and was married to June Holdsworth on July 31 of the same year. He did Post Graduate work at the Pennsylvania College of Podiatry where he was awarded a degree of Doctor of Podiatric Medicine in 1970.
While practicing podiatry, he worked for the U.S. Post Office retiring from there in 1980 and later retired from his practice in 1992.
Gordon was involved in driving for the American Cancer Society as well as the Merrimack Valley Elderly Services. He was a member of the Billerica Lions Club serving as President, Secretary, Treasurer and Director. Having been a member of the First Parish Church of Billerica, he was President, Trustee and Director of the Community Table.
His wife June passed away August 29, 1987 and is survived by his daughter Nancy DiFrancesco of W. Townsend; his son, Gordon Gibb Jr. of Fayetteville, NC and his grandchildren, Mathew Ryan Gibb of NC and Charlene Bishop of FL. He was the brother of the late James and Edwin Gibb and father-in-law of the late Eugene DiFrancesco.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 18 at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 10-11 a.m. with a service to be held at 11 a.m. His burial will take place at the Pine Ridge Cemetery in Chelmsford.
