Gordon Etheridge Mattox, 71, of Wilson passed away Friday, April 18, 2025. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson. Bradley Watson will officiate.
The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 1:30 – 3 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
Gordon was a Sales Rep. for Wilson Packing Company in Wilson NC . He worked there for 23 years. He loved and was so kind to his customers, and they loved him . He will surely be missed by those employees there, and his customers.
Gordon had many interests among those were the Drum and Bugel Corps, Shag Dancing, golfing, racing and fishing. He won many dancing competitions and reached PRO level. He was inducted into the Atlantic Beach Hall of Fame and Living Legends Association of O.D. and Grand Strand. He enjoyed golfing with his friends and participated in tournaments. Clayton enjoyed many hours of fishing together with his dad, as well as other friends.
He loved to watch all kinds of sports on T.V. and attended many Tobs Baseball games with Nancy and Barton College Football games.
Lexie, his beloved Maltese, was an important part of his life, and she loved him dearly!! He called her, “Puppy Dog”.
Gordon and Nancy enjoyed many trips together, going to resorts and the beach. They loved their new home in Deer Creek with Lexi Girl.
Wilson was always his home, and we will miss him so much in the coming days!!
Gordon is survived by his fiancé, Nancy Ellington of Wilson; son, Clayton Cox and fiancé, Chelsey of Sims; sister, Toni McKeel and husband, Michael of Wilson; nephews, Brandon McKeel and wife Ashley, Christopher McKeel and wife, Abbie, and Nicholas McKeel and wife, Jenna; great nephews, Mattox, Walker and Brooks and his great niece, Madi Grace.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Verna Mattox.
Flowers are welcome or consider memorials in Gordon’s memory to Grace Baptist Church, 202 Kincaid Avenue N, Wilson, North Carolina 27893 or to Global Methodist Church, PO Box 8012, Wilson, North Carolina 27894.
