Mr. Gordon Leon McTyre passed away peacefully on November 24, 2023 at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Gordon was born on June 26, 1942 in New Georgia to loving parents, the late Mr. Grady F. McTyre and Mrs. Nettie Lee Meadows McTyre. Gordon was well known in Paulding County. He worked as an auto mechanic for many years and ran a successful garage and parts store named Mack's Garage and Auto Parts with his family. In addition, he was a developer and built many homes. Gordon was also a volunteer firefighter for the City of Dallas for approximately 25 years, and served as a Dallas City Council member for approximately 8 years. He loved cars, specifically Corvettes, and was an avid golfer. He is already deeply missed by his beloved family and friends.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife of approximately 59 years, Judy McTyre of Dallas; sister, Ann Carroll of Dallas; nieces, Shannon McGraw also of Dallas and Beth Fowler of Marietta; and nephews, Frank McTyre, Jr. and his wife, Tina of Bremen and Ben Beard and his wife, Amanda of Dallas. Many other beloved family and friends also survive.
In addition to his parents, Gordon is preceded in death by one brother, Frank "Bingo" McTyre Sr.
Funeral services for Gordon McTyre will be held in the Chapel of Benson Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 2 PM with Rev. Chad Williams Officiating. Interment will follow at the Dallas Memory Gardens. Ben Beard, Jon King, Phil Maynard, and Carson Beard will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on the day of the service from 12-2 PM.
