Grace Buchanan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Yancey Funeral Services - Burnsville on Jan. 30, 2026.
Grace Louella Buchanan, age 87, of the Newdale Community, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, January 29th, 2026. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter to the late William and Winona Phillips Roland. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lee Roy Buchanan; siblings: Eddie Roland, Jewel Hughes, Jean Mecimore, Lillie Mae Guge, Curtis Farr, Verlie Farr and infant sister, Wilma Roland; her favorite dog, Moses.

Grace was a devoted homemaker and family meant everything to her. Her greatest joy came from time spent with her husband, children and grandchildren. She was always happiest when her family could all be together. She took pride in her garden, lovingly tending to her plants and admiring their beauty. Grace also loved shopping and traveling. It brought her immense happiness, especially her cherished trip to Hawaii, where she delighted in the experience of being somewhere special.

Above all else, Grace is now reunited with her husband, whom she missed deeply and grieved for many years after his passing. Knowing they are together again brings comfort to everyone who knew them both. She lived a life full of love and will be remembered for how devoted she was to her family, how much she enjoyed the simple things in life and the warmth she brought when everyone was together.

Those left to remember Grace include her daughter, Louella Henson (Marion) of Waynesville; sons: Eric Buchanan of New Orleans and Scott Buchanan (Carrie) of Asheville; grandchildren: Ryan King (Megan), Kendall Davis (Jacob), Will Buchanan and Cooper Buchanan; great-grandchildren: Ivy Rose King, S.J. Cooper, Tyson Davis and Miles Davis; sisters: June Ward, Louise Buchanan and Alma Kinsland.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10th, 2026 at Crabtree Chapel Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Ryan King and everyone at the Laurels for the love and support shown to Grace and her family.
