Graciela Guerra Vargas (1934-2025)
Graciela Guerra Vargas ("Chela"), a beacon of strength and dignity, passed away to be with our Lord on February 14, 2025, at the age of 90. Born in the picturesque town of Boquete, Chiriqui, Panama to Maximo Guerra and Felicitas Rovira, she lived a life rich in family, love, and cherished traditions.
A matriarch in the truest sense, Graciela's quiet presence commanded respect wherever she went. She took particular joy in gathering her family around the dominoes table, where her competitive spirit and skillful play became legendary among her loved ones. Her greatest happiness came from celebrating holidays, birthdays, and special occasions surrounded by the generations of family she helped nurture.
Graciela was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Maria Teresa Gill (Glenn). She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children: Alma Rosa Guerra Garcia (Salome), Hector Guerra, Emperatriz Vargas, Felicitas Malaszowski, Dr. Delia Meyer (Robb), and Diana Brown (Derrek). Her family tree continues to flourish with 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 6 of her 8 siblings and numerous nieces and nephews who cherished her dearly.
Those who knew her will remember Graciela as the epitome of class, strength, and dignity - qualities she demonstrated throughout her remarkable life. Her graceful presence and loving spirit will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025 from 5:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. with a rosary to begin at 6:00p.m. at Alamo Funeral Home, 624 N. Alamo, San Antonio, Texas 78215. A funeral procession will depart Alamo Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at 9:45a.m. for a 10:00 mass at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1114 Willow St. San Antonio, Texas 78208 with interment to follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
