William Grady Dalton, age 86 of Henagar, AL passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at his home. Funeral services are Saturday, March 22 at 1 PM CT at Corner Stone Funeral Chapel with Elder Dennis Hall, Honorable David Rains and Elder Ricky Harcrow speaking. Burial will follow in the Fuller Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 3 to 7 PM on Friday and 11 AM until service time on Saturday. In-lieu-of flowers, please consider a donation in Grady's memory to one of the following: DeKalb County Cattlemen's Association Scholarship Fund (Attn: Jeff Graves, 73 Rd 918, Collinsville, AL 35961) or Farmers Market at VFW Fairgrounds (Attn: Chris Heard, PO Box 348, Collinsville, AL 35961).
Grady was born August 25, 1938 in Henagar, AL to parents, Hershel "Hud" and Mary Monroe Dalton. He attended Ider High School and served in the US Army from 1962 to 1964. He worked at Standard Coosa Thatcher and Dixie Yarn for a total of 52 years as a Quiller Tender operator and trainer, while also raising cattle and truck farming. During those years, Grady served as President of Local 1418 TWUA and President of GTA Area Joint Board, along with a term as District IV Commissioner for DeKalb County. He was a member of Ider Ashlar Lodge, Ider Eastern Star, and the VFW for over 50 years. Upon retirement, he continued truck farming and became involved with the Farmers Market, where he spent many hours securing funding and materials to increase grower participation. Grady loved meeting new people and reconnecting with old friends through the Farmers Market and at Cattlemen's Association meetings.
Survivors include his sons - William "Billy" Dalton (Kim), Greg Dalton (Shaunta), grandchildren - Tyler Dalton, Tiara Dalton Hardman (Chris), Clayton Dalton, Hudson Dalton, great-grandchildren - Olivia, Ada and Evan Hardman, brother - JC Dalton (Carolyn), nieces - Lisa Dalton Harmon, Robin Dalton Boggs, special friend - Kay Sullivan, mother of children - Lillian Dalton, and numerous cousins.
Grady was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Jessie Ray Dalton. The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Fifth Floor South at Memorial Hospital, along with Dr. Dustin Stricker and Dr. Brandon Bivens for their care, and to Heartlite Hospice for going above and beyond to get him home and take care of him during his final days.
