Grady Ardell Flythe, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2023, at the age of 80. He was born on January 22, 1943, in Halifax County, NC to the late Grady Ardell Flythe, Sr. and Hazel Sumner Flythe.
Grady had a fulfilling career as a plumber and then served as a Corrections Officer for Odom Prison until his health declined. He was a dedicated member of Lasker Baptist Church and found joy in his faith. Grady's interests included fishing, paint by number paintings, and woodworking, which brought him immense pleasure. He was also a devoted supporter of the kids at Northeast Academy, attending every ball game he could.
On the day of his passing, Grady celebrated 59 years of marriage with his loving wife, Brenda. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Grady's family meant the world to him, and he leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion.
Grady is survived by his wife, Brenda; two sons, Randy Flythe and wife Jody of Lasker and Stevie Flythe and wife Billie Jo of Lasker; three granddaughters, Beth Flythe of AL, Mallory Flythe of Lasker, and Laura Flythe of AL; sister, Diane Thompson of Emporia, VA; three brother-in-laws, Calvin Lassiter and wife Joan of Lasker, David Lassiter of Rich Square, and Wray Lassiter of Lasker; as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Stoney Lassiter, and William "Bug" Thompson; and sister-in-law, Ruth Lassiter.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Rich Square Chapel, Rich Square, NC. A celebration of life memorial service will take place on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 11:00 am at Lasker Baptist Church, Lasker, NC, with Rev. Willie McLawhorn and Rev. Ricky Barnes officiating.
