Grady Whitson Judd, age 92, of
Cookeville, TN, went to his eternal rest on December 16, 2024. Grady was the third son born to the late Lowery Dibrell Judd and the late Margie Estelle Holloway Judd on September 18, 1932, in
Cookeville, TN. Grady was an active church member at the Holladay Church of Christ, serving as an elder until his health began to decline. He also served as a deacon at the Willow Avenue Church of Christ for several years.
Grady was drafted into the United States Army in 1953 while still in high school in Monterey, Tennessee, and sent to basic training at Fort Lee, Virginia. Grady served and was stationed in Germany twice, Japan, Korea, Fort Knox, KY, Fort Bragg, NC, and Fort Hood, TX, where he retired in 1973 as a Staff Sergeant.
Grady married Patsy Willene Woolbright on June 3, 1961, before returning to Fayetteville, NC (Fort Bragg). While at Fort Bragg, he and Patsy welcomed two children: a daughter, Cheryl Annette Judd Allen (1962), and a son, Johnny Whitson Judd (1963). After his military retirement, he, Patsy, and the children returned to Cookeville, where he worked in sales and inventory at various businesses in Cookeville. In 1976, he and Patsy welcomed another son, William Clarence Judd. Grady also worked in hardware at Homecrafters/Moore Handley Hardware and Potter's Ace Hardware before his second retirement in 2004.
Grady was preceded in death by four brothers: Alfred Lee Judd, Dennie Edgar Judd, Harlan Ray Judd, and Hugh "Buddy" Judd, and two sisters: Wilma Sue Neal and Margaret Faye Jackson. His in-laws were Randol Aaron Woolbright and Myra Esther Knight Woolbright, three brothers-in-law, and one sister-in-law.
Grady is survived by his wife of 63 and a half years, Patsy (Pat) Willene Judd, a daughter/son-in-law, Cheryl Annette Judd Allen and Randal of
Cookeville, TN; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Johnny Whitson Judd and Sherri of Killeen, TX, and William (Will) Clarence Judd of Williamsburg, VA; one grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Cody Whitson Judd and Sarah of Cincinnati, OH; one sister, Theresa Spears of
Cookeville, TN as well as several nieces and nephews and cousins and many friends.
Funeral Service for Grady Judd will be held Friday, December 20, 2024, at 2:00 pm from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Bros. Henry Amirkhanian, Robert Bishop, and Danny Hall officiating. Entombment with full military honors will follow in the Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery - Mausoleums.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 20, 2024 from 10:00 am until the time of service at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.
