JACKSON TOWNSHIP- Grant Gilbert Greider, age 108, of Halifax, died February 14, 2023, at his home.
He was born on February 4, 1915 in Middle Paxton Twp, PA the son of [the late] Grant G. Greider and Elizabeth (Baker) Greider.
He was a 1935 Graduate of Halifax High School. Grant was a retired railway car inspector and had worked for over 39 years for Penn Central and the former Pennsylvania Railroad. Farming was part of his life from a young age and always played a role in his daily life. He was known for adopting new and innovative farming practices.
He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Halifax, a former Jackson Township Supervisor, an active member of the Susquehanna Lodge #364 and the Harrisburg Consistory. He was a charter member of the Fisherville Fire Co. Grant was very proud to serve his community as Judge of Elections for Jackson Township, a long time voter and received a prestigious voter participation award from the PA Voter Hall of Fame.
Grant was also a longtime fan of the Philadelphia Phillies. He attributed his longevity to "hard work" with a smile on his face. He will be remembered for his positive attitude and his quick wit.
He was the widower of Ruth Elizabeth (Deibler) Greider. They had been married for over 75 years.
Grant is survived by; son, Grant G. (Kathy) Greider Jr.,
Hilton Head, SC, daughter, Judy A. Vallier, Halifax, son, Randy S. (Debbie) Greider, Halifax, son, Douglas L. (Penelope) Greider, Elizabethtown, daughter-in-law, Norma Greider, Carlisle and son-in-law, John Swanson, Venice Beach, FL; Sisters, Florence White, Dauphin, Betty Furhman, Elizabethtown, and Pauline (Paul) Rhen, Dauphin; Grandchildren- Susan, David, Andy, Matt, Melanie, Larry, Scott, Beth, Jocelyn, Adam, Alice, Grant and Luke, 9 Great Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews all of whom remember him with respect and great fondness.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth W. Greider, daughter, Sandra E. Swanson and son-in-law, Larry D. Vallier; Brothers, Charles, Arthur, Irvin, Lester, James and Herbert.
There will be a visitation held at Hoover-Boyer Funeral Homes Ltd, Elizabethville on Friday, February 24, 2023 from 9:30 a.m - 11:00 a.m. Masonic Services will start at 10:45 a.m. followed by a service officiated by Rev. Nancy Brody. Interment of ashes will follow the services at Millers Church Cemetery, Halifax.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Fisherville Fire Company or Messiah Lutheran Church, Fisherville.
