Gregory Thomas Vaquera
February 13, 1956– September 8, 2025
Gregory Thomas Vaquera, of Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Greg was the beloved husband of Michelle Vaquera (Kerr) and a devoted father to Greg (Jill) Vaquera, Angela (Tony) DiFiore, and Justin (Jessica) Vaquera. He was a proud and loving grandfather to nine grandchildren: Abigale (Joseph), Griffin, Nathan, Maria, Tony Jr., Luca, Lorenzo, Santino, and Jasper - who were the joy of his life. Whether it was letting them draw on his shirts or cheering them on in their adventures, his love and pride for them knew no bounds.
Greg is survived by his siblings: Don (Sue) Vaquera, Rudy (Pat) Vaquera, Matt (Jackie) Vaquera, and Josephine (the late Ricardo) Gonzalez. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces. He was preceded in death by his brothers Steve (Jean) Vaquera and Chris Vaquera, as well as his parents, Rudolph and Josephine Vaquera.
Greg dedicated over 35 years to his work as a superintendent in the construction industry. A true craftsman, there was never anything he could not make or repair around the house (especially for his wife). Outside of work, he found peace and purpose in the outdoors. He loved tending to his large, elaborate gardens - always eager to share the fruits (and vegetables) of his labor with family and friends. A passionate outdoorsman, he especially looked forward to the annual pheasant hunts with his sons and extended family. Watching and listening to birds brought him quiet joy, particularly from his favorite corners of his backyards in both St. Helen and Dearborn.
Greg also held a brown belt in Judo, a reflection of his strength, discipline, and perseverance. He had a strong commitment to sports, especially his favorite teams. After playing baseball at St. Thomas Aquinas and football at Cody High School, he would carry on his love of sports by watching Lions games and his children's and grandchildren's various sports activities.
Greg was a man of deep faith, and he carried that faith with humility, grace, and gratitude throughout his life.
Above all, he was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, a kind neighbor, and a loyal friend.
