Mass of Christian Burial for Gregory "Greg" Cattoor, 83, of Stillwater, formerly of Marshall, will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 30, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. with a parish prayer service at 6:00 p.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at the Remembrance Center. Interment will follow the service at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall.
Greg was born on January 8, 1942, in Marshall, Minnesota. He was the second son in a line of five boys born to Ernest and "Mickey" (Eileen McAuliffe) Cattoor. He attended Holy Redeemer Catholic School and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1960 where he was a multi-sport athlete and participated in school plays.
Blessed with a lifelong gift for numbers, Greg studied accounting at the University of St. Thomas while managing the "Tommie" intramural program. On August 24, 1963, he married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Suzanne Schulte, who was a student at the University of St. Catherine down the road.
After graduating from college in 1964, Greg followed in his father's footsteps by returning to Marshall to operate Cattoor Oil Company hand in hand with his brother Tom, where he enjoyed serving farm and business customers throughout the region. He became a respected leader in the industry, serving as President of the Minnesota Petroleum Marketers, and Chair of the Minnesota Petroleum Tank Release Compensation board for 20 years.
Greg didn't just attend; he organized and led. He was passionate about the Marshall community and his country. He served in the United States Army Reserve, attaining the rank of E and was a lifelong member and supporter of the American Legion. He took on many Marshall leadership roles over the years including President of Marshall Area Chamber of Commerce, President of Southwest State University Foundation, President of Marshall Industries Foundation, Chairman of the Planning Commission, Chairman of the City Economic Development Authority, and Marshall City Council Member. For 18 years he served as a Board Member of Bremer Financial Trust and was a charter board member of the Marshall Area YMCA, where he helped chair the organization's original fund drive. Greg's steady presence on numerous boards and committees left a lasting impact on the economic and civic life of Marshall.
Greg's Catholic faith was central to his life. He served as Parish Trustee of Holy Redeemer Parish for 18 years. He was a longtime active member serving as lector, eucharistic minister, member of the Board of Administration and was instrumental in the church remodel and restoration. His deepest joy in church life was serving in the funeral choir. Always dressed in a jacket and tie, he took special care to welcome and guide grieving families, staying on through their funeral luncheons to offer his steady, strong, and comforting presence.
Greg's greatest delight was his family. He treasured their time together at the lake, spending countless hours pulling skiers and tubers behind his boat and cheering them on at their sporting events. Winters as snowbirds in Fort Myers, Florida, were filled with trips to his favorite spots - especially the Minnesota Twins spring training ballpark, where he and Suzanne shared their warm-weather haven with children and grandchildren. His passion for Minnesota sports made family gatherings lively and fun. As a father and grandfather, he made sure each child and grandchild knew they were special, seen, and deeply loved. Greg leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and love that will live on in the community he helped shape and the family he cherished.
