Gregory Gottstein, Age 83, of Lincolnwood, Illinois, passed away on September 19, 2025, after battling heart and kidney disease. He faced his illness with strength, dignity, and his trademark wit. Gregory was the devoted husband of the late Sharon Gottstein, a loving father to his daughter, Jennifer Shinabarger, and a proud grandfather to Eli, Emmie, Roland, and Lainey. He will also be remembered by nieces, nephews, and friends who shared holidays and countless Sunday afternoons cheering on "Da Bears." He was a graduate of Northeastern Illinois University (formerly United Teachers College), where he served as editor of the student newspaper, and later took pride in seeing his daughter earn both her undergraduate and master's degrees from his alma mater. Gregory spent more than 30 years teaching at Melody School in the Chicago Public Schools. He especially treasured his summers, which he and Sharon spent traveling abroad and enjoying a fisherman's lifestyle in Ontario, Canada, until travel became difficult in later years. In retirement, he built a new legacy, first as "Mr. G's Logic Puzzles," which grew into the award-winning Perplexors series, still published today through MindWare. Gregory will be remembered for his humor, intellect, pride in family, and devotion to those he loved. His memory will be cherished, and his legacy never forgotten. Services and interment will be private. Arrangements Entrusted to Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, Chicago, IL. For funeral info call 773-736-3833 or www.smithcorcoran.com
