It is with heavy hearts that we share our unexpected loss of Gregory "Greg" Bullard Onorato, 42, of Shrewsbury, who passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
Greg leaves his loving parents, Gary C. and Susan P. (Bullard) Onorato, of Shrewsbury; his brother, Sam B. Onorato, of Shrewsbury; many cousins and wonderful friends, including Brian L'heureux and Lauren McGovern; his aunts, Cynthia Iverson and her husband Eric, Deborah Whelan and her husband John, and Lisa Kinney and her husband Chris; his uncles, Nicholas Onorato and his wife Ellen, and Glen Onorato. He was predeceased by his brother, Justin B. Onorato; his paternal grandparents, Nicholas and Elizabeth (Settergren) Onorato; and his maternal grandparents, Herbert and Eva (Zecker) Bullard; and his uncles, Jeffrey and Charles Onorato.
Greg was born in Worcester and raised in Shrewsbury alongside his two brothers. They spent countless hours in their big backyard, enjoying their swimming pool and pick-up baseball and football games together with neighbors and friends. He graduated from Shrewsbury High School, Class of 2000, and earned his bachelor's degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 2004.
Greg had a lengthy and successful career in IT, beginning in 2004 in the Shrewsbury School Department IT group, and then working for SELCO, beginning in 2012. He became IT Director for the Town of Shrewsbury in 2020.
In the words of his colleagues at Selco, "Greg was a steady, thoughtful leader who made a meaningful impact on countless colleagues, friends, and departments throughout Shrewsbury. He will be remembered not only for his technical expertise and leadership, but for his kindness and friendship."
Greg's passion for technology extended into his personal life where he found enjoyment as an avid gamer. Greg spent many happy days making memories with those who became dear friends from Bauhinia and JP's Restaurant and Pub. In a tribute to him, JP's fondly shared that, "Greg was truly a friend to all who crossed paths with him. He was always eager to engage in conversation...and would give up his own seat without question if he saw someone looking for one. Thank you for coming into our lives and blessing us with your presence. We will save a seat for you at the bar "
Greg was a wonderful pet parent to his beloved cats, Hush, Brush, Jack and Jack's dad, Tony. They were his loyal companions and brightened his days with their many antics over the years. He was a lifelong Bruins and Patriots fan, rooting them on in good years and in bad.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to any charity supporting the adoption or care of animals, or just one of your choice.
Greg's family will be celebrating his life privately. The Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home is honored to be assisting with arrangements.
