Gregory Southall Obituary

On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, Gregory Southall peacefully entered eternal rest at his home, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on February 28, 1952, to the late Louise Southall and John Moore, Sr., Gregory lived a full and meaningful life rooted in faith and family. He was baptized at Third Baptist Church in Portsmouth, VA.

Gregory was educated through the Portsmouth Public School System and proudly graduated from I.C. Norcom High School, Class of 1970. After, he was drafted into the United States Army, where he served his country for two years. Following his military service, Gregory continued a life of hard work and dedication as a civil service shipwright (Shop 64) at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1999. Never one to sit still, he later worked for the City of Portsmouth.

Affectionately known as "Frog," Gregory was known for his big personality, quick humor, and even bigger heart. He loved all sports and was a die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fan, cheering his team on through thick and thin. He was a loving father who believed in discipline, strength, and teaching lessons that would last a lifetime - but he also knew how to make everyone laugh. Gregory enjoyed fishing, cooking fish, dancing, joking, traveling, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 190 and the DAV Chapter 22, where he built lasting friendships and served with pride.

Gregory was preceded in death by his sister Sandra Southall, brother John Moore, Jr., mother-in-law Ethel Macklin, and brother-in-law Oneil Macklin.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 42 years, Suandra M. Southall; three sons, Steven Southall, Tahj Parker (Tia), and Antwan Hoskie; four daughters, Patrice McCray (Albert), Makena Southall, Shena Southall-Barnes, and Nakita Southall (Desmond); twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Kirk Southall (Alice); two sisters, Joann Cooper (David) and Kim Southall; sister-in-law Dorothy Moore; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

Gregory will be remembered for his strength, his laughter, and his unwavering love for family. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
