James Knight

James Knight, 68, departed this life on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, surrounded by his family, at home. James was born to the late James Reed and Eloise Knight on May 12, 1957, in Suffolk, Virginia. At the age of 2 years old, James was welcomed into the home of his foster parents, the late Willie Mae and George Griffin, in Chesapeake, Virginia. James attended Chesapeake Public Schools and graduated from Great Bridge High School in 1975. James was baptized at an early age and attended Mount Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church in Chesapeake, VA, where he sang in the Youth Choir and served on the Junior Usher Board.

James was employed as a cafeteria worker at Roses Department Store from 1977 to 1991, where he spread joy and laughter to all of his customers. James actively participated in activities with his Arbor's family. He particularly enjoyed Bible Study and Praise and Worship.

James is predeceased by his twin sister, Jamie Knight; his sisters, Brenda Reid, Mildred Cherry, and Yvonne Jones; one brother, Bernard Reid; and one nephew, Ervin Knight.

James leaves behind to cherish his memory three sisters, Esther Faison of Chesapeake, VA, Garcia Ortiz of Virginia Beach, VA, and Anita Knight; one aunt, Mable Carroll of Philadelphia, PA; his Kingdom Builders Church family; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

James' love for the Lord was evident to all who knew him. You could always count on seeing him in the sharpest suit, carrying his Bible and tambourine, ready to praise the Lord. James worshiped with his whole heart and wasn't afraid to let the world know just how good God has been to him. James' spirit, his joy, and his unshakable faith touched everyone around him. We will miss his smile, his chicken, his energy, and his praise that could light up a room. We will miss you deeply. Rest well, until we meet again.
