Linda Faye Murphy, 70, of Chesapeake, VA, passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at her home. She was surrounded by the love and care of her family and friends in her final days.
Linda was born in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Willie and Charlotte Faircloth Ivey, Jr. on June 15, 1955. She graduated from Great Bridge High School in 1973. Linda married the love of her life, Robert "Bert" Murphy, on June 28, 1986. They raised their son, Willie, together. Linda and Bert's life together was joyful and often included many friends, family and neighbors. They hosted gatherings frequently and Linda was always a ready host with snacks and beverages.
Linda had a very successful career in banking. She started as a teller and with much hard work was promoted to branch manager. At her retirement from the Bank of Hampton Roads, Linda was the Senior Vice President and Training Officer. She trained many employees through the years. She enjoyed her work very much and was the welcoming personality that new employees and customers saw and loved.
After her retirement, Linda was a caretaker for many. She ensured that her parents made it to their many medical appointments and received the best care possible. Linda also was a doting grandmother. Her grandchildren gave her so much joy and she was very proud of them. She was always quick to share a photo or tell of their many accomplishments. In addition, she was a loving stepmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband, Robert "Bert" Murphy; son, Willie Murphy (Sarah); stepdaughters, Whitney Murphy-Farlow and Colette Price (Bruce); sisters, Becky Phillips and Shirley Ivey; brother, Ricky Ivey; sister-in-law, Sharon Ivey; grandchildren, Madison Murphy, Allie Murphy, Emma Murphy, Tristin Farlow, Byron Farlow, Van Price and Blade Price; nieces, Rachel Sykes, Nickie Ivey, and Alisa Murphy Brooks; nephews, Lee Ivey (Lillian) and Scott Ivey (Magan); dear friends, Renee, Jimmy and Jamie McKinney; and her faithful dog, Abbie.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Charlotte; her brother, Eddie Ivey; her niece, Jessica Sykes; her nephew, Jonathan Blair; and her precious fur baby, Roxy.
The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake on Monday, October 13, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A service to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor Dylan Lebakken officiating. Burial will follow at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens, 524 Cedar Road. Please visit www.grahamfuneralhome.com to leave a condolence to the family.
