Gregory Robert Timmons 68, of Peru, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 15, 2024 at UVM Health network at CVPH, Plattsburgh with loving family by his side.
Greg was born in Plattsburgh on August 17, 1955, the son of Robert and Loretta (McGee) Timmons.
Son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, firefighter, chief, superintendent, commissioner, instructor, leader, mentor, friend, no matter his role, Greg was an inspiration to everyone he met. He has had a significant impact in the Peru community, Clinton County and the world at large.
Greg worked for the Town of Peru from the age of 18. In 1995 he replaced his father (Robert Timmons) as the Water and Sewer Superintendent. Greg's commitment to the town far exceeded his role, he was invested in making sure the people in the community were taken care of, for Greg this was more than just a job it was one of the ways he gave back to his community and the people in it. In 2015, he retired from the Town of Peru after dedicating over 40 years to the health, safety, and betterment of his community.
Following in his father's footsteps, Greg was a long standing active member of the Peru Volunteer Fire Department, culminating in over 50 years of service. Over the years, Greg has filled numerous roles including Chief, Fire Investigator, Clinton County Car 5, and New York State Fire Instructor, and Commissioner. Greg has received various awards and accolades for his service and dedication throughout the years. Greg was beyond proud that he was given the opportunity to take over as Clinton County Car 5 from his father, and true to his nature he used this opportunity to support and mentor all of the departments that he worked with. Greg is known far and wide as one of the best New York State Fire Instructors, and over the past 30 years, he has taught some component of fire instruction to almost every firefighter in the county.
In addition to his official roles, Greg was always the "first call" he was the person that everyone could count on for whatever they needed. He always had time for his family and friends. He was a great husband and an amazing father/grandfather. He could often be found sitting at his table, laughing with friends, giving advice, or waiting for a pizza to bring home to Debbie at Pasquales. He lived life to its fullest and exactly the way he wanted to, and he left this world with no regrets.
He will be survived by the love of his life, his greatest supporter and the person who provided the opportunity for him to be so selfless in the community, his wife of 50 years Deborah (Mosier). Also left to cherish the memory of Greg are his two children Gregory & Laura, 5 grandchildren Amber, Jonathan, Madison, Logan, and Austin, his mother Loretta Timmons, sister Julie Timmons, brothers Timothy Timmons, Robert (Michelle) Timmons, sister-law Andrea Timmons and several nieces and nephews. Greg was predeceased by his father Robert Timmons, and David Timmons.
