Gregory “Greg” Stephen Vangor, age 74, of Southbury, beloved husband of the late Joyce (Bero) Vangor, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on October 12, 2025. Born on June 5, 1951 in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late William and Theresa (Chaplinsky) Vangor.
Greg worked for many years at the family business, Vangor Engineering Corporation, eventually taking over ownership from his father. There, he worked as a tool and dye maker, putting his knowledge and handiness to work each and every day.
Some of his favorite hobbies included fishing, bird watching, loudly listening to Johnny Cash and, most of all, spending time with his family. He adored watching his grandchildren ride their sleds in the yard, or take a spin out on the motorized scooter he bought (and customized with added walker rack on the back!)
He also loved spending time on the beach and vacationing with his wife.
Greg is survived by his daughter Shannon Fernous and her partner, Mark Frankel; 3 beloved granddaughters: Adelaide, Victoria, and Penelope Fernous; mother-in-law Julia Bernaski; brother-in-law Billy Bero; sister-in-law Patty Yuskis; numerous nieces and nephews; his best buddy Jose; his faithful furry companion Ben; and many other friends, relatives, and loved ones.
He was predeceased by his wife, Joyce; his parents William and Theresa; his sister Lynn Susan (Vangor) Carrano; and his brother John.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Friday, October 17 at 1pm at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield CT. Friends and family may gather and pay their respects starting at 12pm at the funeral home. Following the service, light appetizers and refreshments will be served at the Local Craft Kitchen & Bar, 85 Mill Plain Rd, Fairfield, CT.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Greg’s name can be made to Tunnels to Towers.
