Gregory Alan Wobus

Gregory Alan Wobus passed away in Norfolk, Virginia, on January 5, 2026. Gregory was born in Norfolk and lived there almost his whole life.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ruth, Hermann, and Velma Wobus, his sister Kathryn, and his nephew Timothy. He is survived by his brothers Richard (Nadine) and John (Dale), his nieces Megan (Charley Beller) Wobus and Nicole (Kurt) Pierce, and their children Emily, Kiva, Lazar, and Lilly.
Gregory graduated in 1971 from Norview High School, where he studied art and played clarinet in the band. He played keyboards in a band organized by his lifelong friend Curtis Eley. He worked several other jobs, most of which were outdoors, but the activities he loved were drawing and playing the piano, by ear, very skillfully but mostly for his own satisfaction. He enjoyed visiting museums, traveling to see interesting architecture, and collecting used books about art, architecture, aviation, and nature. He was a member of the Appalachian Trail Club and hiked and backpacked in Shenandoah National Park and other places in the western United States and Canada.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association in Gregory's memory. A memorial service will take place at Christ United Methodist Church, 1601 E. Bayview Blvd, Norfolk, VA at 1 PM on Saturday, January 17, 2026, and the family will receive friends before the service at 12:30 PM.
