Guy Lewis Archer was born on August 24, 1933,  in Barnes Corners (Tug Hill- that’s way up north around the Watertown area in case you didn’t know) and attended school in Lowville, New York, and passed away on May 8, 2025. He served with the U.S. Army (Combat Engineers) in Korea and Tuli, Greenland as a licensed demolition expert and surveyor. After the Army, Guy attended Delhi State College on the GI Bill. Then Guy worked as a civil engineer on the St. Lawrence Seaway and Niagara Falls Dam Projects.

While working on the Niagara Falls Dam Project, he met Betty Boyes (a South African girl, who worked in Toronto for BP Oil) at a party held by a South African engineer. Guy and Betty went skiing in Canada, fell in love, married and went to South Africa. In South Africa Guy worked for Clifford Harris and Sons Construction Company for 3 years. He returned to the States and worked for John Arborio, Inc. and S.J. Groves Company. Guy then ran a small company of his own for a couple of years and in 1980 became the Western Regional Manager for Associated General Contractors (AGC). While working with the AGC, Guy handled labor agreements, collective bargaining, engineering, specifications and helped jump start the engineering program at Alfred State College.

In 1995, Guy retired and became an official snowbird to Florida in the winter months. He stayed at Palm View Gardens, Zephyrhills, Fl. for 20 plus years, where he enjoyed the company of many friends and family. In his spare time, Guy enjoyed pursuing the white tail deer and was a member of a hunting club in the Adirondacks. He enjoyed playing golf with Fred and Patty and could fix anything that you put in front of him. Guy took his responsibilities seriously but was never too busy to pass a few pleasant words with you.

Guy is predeceased by his parents, Hugh and Ida Delia (Minnie Chartrand) Archer, brothers; Donald Archer, Gofford Roy Archer (twin who died at birth), Hugh Archer Jr. (died at birth); and his wife of 47 years, Selma Elizabeth (Betty). He is survived by a sister, Arletha Archer Zehr; a brother, Eugene Hugh Archer; daughters, Wendy, Tracy and Andrea and their families. A special thank you to Guys ‘angels’ who helped with his care: Patty, Arletha, Charlotte, Carol, Regi, Jill, HPH Hospice of Fl., Wylie Hall staff of the Renaissance in Due West, SC, AGAPE Hospice of SC and several others.
