Guy Eldon Molby was Born in Detroit, Michigan on September 22, 1936. His boyhood home was in Dearborn, MI. The family moved to Thayer Lake in Alden, MI in 1946. He graduated from Bellaire High School in 1954. Guy went on to college at Sault Saint Marie and Houghton to study Electrical Engineering. He then worked for General Telephone Electric as an engineer designing and installing utility lines.
On October 15, 1960 Guy married Constance K. Russell, the love of his life. They raised three boys on the eastern shore of Torch Lake.
Guy later finished his Bachelor of Science Degree at Northern Michigan University in Criminal Justice in 1982. He served as deputy sheriff in Antrim County for several years before becoming Sheriff in 1984. After that he worked as a Director of Security at Lake Superior State University and taught Criminal Justice courses. He also became a Professional Investigator. Guy also served as Zoning Administrator for Helena Township for a few years before retiring to Thayer Lake.
Guy was a Scoutmaster in Alden for over 60 years and was so proud of his three boys becoming Eagle Scouts. He led many high adventure canoeing, hiking and camping trips. His influence on raising local boys to become men in his community still endures to this day. He was a volunteer firefighter with South Torch Lake Fire and Rescue for 30 years helping countless people at all hours of the day and night.
Some of his hobbies were model railroading, pioneering, gardening, amateur ham radio operating, and sailing his E-Scow on Torch Lake. He was a long time member of the Alden United Methodist Church.
Surrounded by his loving family, Guy was called to his heavenly home on July 1, 2024 after a short residence at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire. He was 87 years old.
Guy was preceded in death by his parents Ellis W. and C. Lucille Molby, his brother Douglas Molby, his sister Pamela Martin.
He is survived by his loving wife Connie Molby, son Greg (Tamara) Molby and their children Sierra, Nevada, Heidi, Elias and Denali, son Erik (Tashina) Molby and their children Gabriel, Jana and Logan, and son Troy (Kristin) Molby and their children Lilly and Elliott, along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will have a private memorial service.
