Born on August 4, 1939, in Dyersburg Tennessee, he was the cherished son of Guy and Charlie Clair Stephenson, who instilled in him the values of love and generosity that he carried throughout his life. He was also preceded in death by his beloved sisters, Mary Charleene and Joy Ann.
Guy lived a life full of love, laughter, and unwavering support for his family and friends. Guy was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy, with whom he shared 64 joyful years of marriage together. They created a loving home filled with warmth and cherished memories. Guy was a proud father to his three daughters Stephenie, Mary Ann (Doug) Lambeth, and Gwyn (Neil) Young. He took immense joy in the role as grandfather to his four grandchildren Lloyd (Sarah) Lambeth, Logan (Natalie) Lambeth, Wesley Young and Elaine Young as well as his two great-grandchildren Luke and Drew Lambeth. The love that he had for his family was apparent in every hug, every smile, and every story he shared.
A proud graduate of Memphis State University in 1961, Guy started his educational journey at Southern Methodist University. He earned his CPA and used his knowledge and experience throughout his career. Guy was an active member of his community. His faith was important to him as he was a dedicated member of both Whitehaven Methodist Church and Hernando Methodist Church. He gave back to the community through his work with Hernando Meals on Wheels and the Hernando Food Bank.
Guy was a man of many passions and interests. He was a lifelong supporter of Memphis State Athletics and loved to spend his time golfing, solving crossword puzzles, and testing his knowledge on Jeopardy. He took great pleasure in competing in the Memphis in May BBQ Festival where his culinary skills shone bright. The Whitehaven Country Club was a big part of his life where he golfed, making memories with wonderful, lifelong friends. Annual family vacations to the beach created lasting memories as well.
Guy was a member of the Class of 1957 Dyersburg High School. He remained connected with his high school classmates celebrating with a class reunion every five years, and just recently celebrating 65 years of friendship with laughter and camaraderie.
Those who knew Guy remember him as a kind-hearted individual always smiling and ready to offer a hug. He had an extraordinary gift for storytelling, and he could relate to anyone, never meeting a stranger. His bond with Nancy was especially unique; they could finish each other's sentences, a testament to their deep love and understanding of one another.
In honoring Guy's life, we celebrate the impact he made on everyone around him. His kindness, warmth, and unwavering support will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Everyone loved Bubba!
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Hernando Methodist Church, Hernando Meals on Wheels, or the charity of your church in memory of Guy.
