Guy Wilson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 25, 2020.
Skokie, IL.

Guy Abraham Wilson passed away on Saturday August 22nd 2020 at his home with his wife and son by his side. Guy was born in Guyana in South America on September 22nd 1955 to Doreen Phillips and Philip Wilson. He is survived by his brother Cazzie Phillips.

He grew up in Georgetown, Guyana, and started studies at the University of Guyana but completed his degree at Northwestern University. Guy moved to the US in 1983 after he got married to Philomena on April 9th 1983. Phillip, his son was born on September 4th 2000 and has been the joy of Guy and Philomena since then.

Since coming to the US, Guy started work at Northwestern University and never left. After many years he was named the Manager of Accounts Payable at Northwestern, a position he loved. He retired from this position only this year. Guy and Philomena lived in the Evanston/Skokie area throughout their 37 years in America and loved the area. He loved the New York Times and especially its Crossword Puzzles and spent much time doing these. He will be sorely missed by his many nieces and nephews with whom he shared a tremendous bond. He loved to cook for them and they enjoyed his cooking, especially his curries. Guy also loved music (especially the Classics and reggae) and was very happy spending time with family and friends, playing his music.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Chicago Food Depository or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Guy was a kind, sincere and gentle man. It was a pleasure to know this wonderful gentleman. I pray for him, Philomena, Philip and all of his loved ones. All of us should be comforted by having great confidence that he is most assuredly now an advocate for us in the next life. He will be sorely missed by many, many of us.

So sorry to hear of Guy's passing! Guy always had a smile on his face and possessed tremendous patience in my experience of him at Northwestern. I hope you cherish your memories of him, as so many others will.

Hi Philomena and Philip, I feel there is a consensus of the person Guy was by many who met and knows him. He was a good and kind man. He would always check my Fitbit and we would compare the steps and smile. He always beat me of course. I believe Guy will be watching both of you from Heaven. Both of you will be in my prayers.

Dear Philomena, please know that you and your son will be in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Praying for God's healing mercies and that he gives your family strength as you're processing this great loss. It was a pleasure to work with you and your husband over the years and I am grateful to know you both. May God keep his arms around you and your family, Seletta Nichols.

I had the pleasure of knowing Guy for almost 10 years, and working with him for 9 of them. He was the best listener I ever met, always very thoughtful about what he said, was open to letting you try to change his mind, and had a great sense of humor. I spent a lot of years in the office right next to his, but while I can honestly say I never, but never, got used to him blasting his dreadful classical music, I will now make sure to give a nod to Beethoven every December in honor of his birthday, and throw back a shot of Scotch......to properly celebrate my friend, Guy Wilson!!
