She spent her first ten years in Franklin, Nebraska where her parents owned and managed the historic Lincoln Hotel. The family moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1955 where Gwen resided until her return to Nebraska in 2015.

Gwen earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Arizona State University and was affiliated with the Alpha Sigma social sorority. She served as pledge class vice president and treasurer and was honored for her high scholarship. Gwen received her Master of Education from the University of Arizona in Tucson. She was affiliated with the Little Sisters of Minerva, the Sigma Epsilon Auxiliary where she served as vice president. She returned to Phoenix and spent her career teaching history and then math at the high school level. Many of those years were spent at Carl Hayden High School. Miss G, as she was fondly called, was a popular, although strict, teacher who supported her students in and out of the classroom. She chaperoned many bus trips and cheered on countless sporting events receiving 'Academic Advisor Scorekeeper Appreciation for All You’ve Done’ from the Carl Hayden High School Baseball team. She also received recognition for her support of Carl Hayden’s girls’ basketball and softball programs. She received an Award for Dedication and Commitment to Public Education for her years of Service. Gwen remained active with the University of Arizona Alumni association and guided many students in their pursuit of scholarships. She was a devoted teacher who loved her vocation.

Gwen was an avid Arizona Wildcat fan, attending as many basketball games as possible and enjoyed professional baseball and basketball as well. Gwen loved to travel and spent many vacations traveling the world with her parents and later, various friends. She loved animals and almost always had a canine companion. Gwen was an avid gardener and enjoyed sewing, cross stitch, and various crafts. She was a devoted daughter and granddaughter, caring for her parents as they aged.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Ernie and Mildred Gilsdorf and her grandparents, Mr. And Mrs. Glen D. Spacht and Mr. And Mrs. Guido Gilsdorf.

Gwen is survived by several cousins and her special friends at An Angel’s Touch Memory Care.
