Gwendolyn "Kay" Portillo, of
Pampa, Texas, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, August 31, 2025, surrounded by family and love. Born in Pampa on January 1, 1954, as one of nine children to Julias and Annie Mae Hollis, Kay's life was a tapestry of devotion, warmth, and selfless service.
A proud graduate of Perryton High School, Kay cherished her roots and the bonds she built with family and friends. In 1974, fate brought her together with the love of her life, Jose Guadalupe "Lupe" Portillo. Their whirlwind romance blossomed into a lifelong partnership, and the couple celebrated 50 years of marriage this year, having wed on February 28, 1975, in Sayre, Oklahoma.
Kay's nurturing spirit found its true calling in caring for others-whether as a dedicated CNA, a compassionate hospice caregiver, or the heart of her home as a devoted wife and mother. She embodied the truest sense of a servant's heart, tending to the needs of others before her own. Her hands created cherished heirlooms through crocheting, and her mind found joy in novels, puzzles, and spirited games of Skip-Bo.
Reserved and gentle, Kay cherished the comforts of home, yet delighted in finding and sharing gifts for her children and, most especially, her grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Nana." Her unwavering love and generosity were a steadfast presence for all who knew her.
Kay was reunited in heaven with her parents, her brothers Ronnie Joe Bush and Ronald Dale Hollis, and her beloved infant twin brothers, Donny and Johnny Hollis.
Her legacy endures in those she leaves behind: her husband, Lupe Portillo of Pampa; daughters Ramona Sergey and husband Jason of Boynton Beach, FL; Melissa Armendariz and husband Rene of Amarillo; and Nikki Anguiano and husband Fernando of Pampa; her brother, Randy Hollis of Canyon; sisters Darla Pearson and husband Calvin of Logan, NM, Judy Martin and husband David of Canyon, and Janet Scarborough of Hurst, TX; twelve grandchildren-Halie Shores, Dayton Portillo, Abigail Ford, Lexi Arguello, Fernando Anguiano, Dacie Ford, Luke Ford, Samuel Anguiano, Heaven Hernandez, Isaiah Anguiano, Luke Armendariz, Caleb Armendariz-and six great-grandchildren: Scarlett Wells, Braylee Shores, Zoey Shores, Lily Shores, Ellington Anguiano, and Violet Portillo. She is also fondly remembered by a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 4th, from 3 to 8 pm, and Friday, September 5th, from 9 am to 8 pm at Winegeart Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life service will take place at 10:00 am, Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the Winegeart Funeral Home Serenity Chapel, officiated by her son-in-law, Jason Sergey. Cremation will follow under the care and guidance of Winegeart Funeral Home.
