Harl Raines, 81, of Vineland formerly of Upper Pittsgrove Twp. passed away on Tuesday evening, May 20, 2025 at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home in Vineland.
Born in Cocke County, TN to the late William Rains and Dora Hall, he had resided in Upper Pittsgrove Twp., Turnersville, and Pole Tavern. Harl had moved with his family from Tennessee to New Jersey when he was about six years old.
Prior to his retirement, Harl had owned and operated Alpine Roofing and Siding for many years with his brother, Jimmie. He had also been previously employed by Kessel's Nursery in Monroeville, Kimble Glass Co., and Reynold's Aluminum in Clayton. Harl was a veteran of the United States Army where he had achieved the rank of Sergeant. He was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam conflict.
In his free time, Harl enjoyed watching John Wayne movies, hunting, fishing and traveling. He had visited most of the states in the United States. Harl was also a cat lover. His favorite cat he ever owned was Blind Willie who he saved from the ice and snow and took him in.
He is survived by; his brother, William D. Rains (Donna) of Slater, SC; his sisters in law, Ida Belle Rains of Pittsgrove Twp., Elaine Rains of Pittsgrove Twp., Melissa Rains of Rockaway and Barbara Blanker of Pennsville and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Besides his parents, Harl was preceded in death by; his brothers, Carrel Rains, Earl Rains and Jimmie Mac Rains; his sister, Betty Rains and his favorite cat, Blind Willie.
Funeral services will be held at the Padgett Funeral Home, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Saturday, May 31st at 12 Noon. Interment will take place at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Elmer. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 11 AM to 12 Noon prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Harl's memory to a charity of ones choice.
