Harold L. Horch, age 85, a lifelong resident of Marysville, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, following a recent battle with cancer.
On June 8, 1939, Harold was born in Marysville, Ohio, one of two sons of the late Melvin G. and Verna F. (Ell) Horch. He graduated from Marysville High School in the class of 1958.
After graduating, Harold worked at Nestle NDC Marysville and Pittsburgh Paint in Delaware, until he found his true calling to become a firefighter. In 1973, Harold became one of the first three full time firefighters for the Marysville Fire Department. He proudly served the fire house and the Marysville community for 25 years, earning the rank of lieutenant, until his retirement in 1998. He was affectionately known as "Pappy" by everyone connected with the Marysville Fire Department.
In 1988, Harold started his side business, Horch Mower Services, servicing the city of Marysville and out lying areas for over 26 years. He also was a member of the Marysville Moose Lodge #1651, Windsor Senior Center, and Trinity Lutheran Church.
An avid camper, Harold enjoyed spending time with his camper at several local campgrounds, and especially at Alum Creek State Park. He also loved his two canine companions: Max and Mia.
In addition to his pups, Harold is survived by his twenty year companion, Karol Strapp; two children: Steve Horch, and Kim (Mike) Butcher; two grandchildren: Harley and Ashley Horch; brother, Thomas (Jeanne) Horch; three nieces and several great nieces and nephews; and a special cousin, Jim Moder.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help his family with funeral expenses.
