Harold Eugene Hurst

HURST – Harold Eugene Hurst, age 77, of Lawrenceville, GA, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 19, 2025, in the Lawrenceville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home with Pastor John Melvin officiating. Interment will follow at Gwinnett Memorial Park, 925 Hwy 29 S, Lawrenceville, GA, 30046. Harold graduated from Berkmar High School in 1967. He served 24 years with the Army National Guard. Harold retired from the City of Atlanta after 30 years as a Supervisor of their Parks and Recreation Department, then continued to work with the Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation and retired after 15 years. He attended and was a member of Camp Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Lilburn. Harold loved working in his woodshop and surprising his daughters on Christmas with things he had made. He enjoyed working on cars with his grandson Zach, going to NASCAR races with Stephanie and Hunter, working in his yard, watching the flowers bloom, and birds eat from the bird feeder. He cherished his annual summer beach vacations with his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn Johnson Hurst and Vernard V. Hurst, and his brother, Rex Hurst. Harold is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Pauline (King) Hurst; daughters, Stacey (Chris) Mercer and Stephanie Hoopaugh; grandsons, Hunter and Zach Mercer; sisters, Sharon (Herschel) Rushing and Nancy (Gary) Cain; and nieces and nephews, Warren Rushing, Jamie Cockman, Cory Cain, and Christy Stancil. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 18, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The Funeral will be Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the funeral service at Tim Stewart Funeral Home, Lawrenceville. As a tribute to Harold's passion for Hot Rods, we warmly invite classic car owners to drive their cherished vehicles to the funeral, joining the procession to Gwinnett Memorial Park.
