"The Eagle is soaring high in the sky" Harold A. Sauer, age 79, of Monroe, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on July 28, 2025. Born December 19, 1945, in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, Harold was a 1963 graduate of Monroe High School. On May 15, 1992 Harold married the love of his life, Nancy J. Trouten. He dedicated his career to Groulx Automotive, where he earned the respect of colleagues and customers alike. In 2020 Harold retired after 45 years, and in retirement he embraced the freedom to pursue the things he loved most. Harold lived a full and meaningful life centered on family, community, and life's simple pleasures. A true sportsman at heart, Harold found joy and connection in the camaraderie of softball, bowling, and golf leagues. He was a lifelong member of the Monroe Boat Club, where he was a familiar and beloved face. Harold and his wife, Nancy, shared a passion for travel, crisscrossing the country together on countless road trips, always discovering new places and old friends. It's said there wasn't a town they visited where Harold didn't know someone. Harold attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and was a former member of the Moose and the Elks. At home, Harold found peace in the quiet moments-working on jigsaw puzzles and starting each day with a photograph of the sunrise, capturing the beauty and promise of every morning. Harold is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Nancy; his children: Craig Sauer of Monroe; Troy (Renee) Straub of Peoria, Arizona; Lisanne (David) Buchko of Monroe; and Kristine (Josh) Walker of Monroe; and his brother, Norman (Terry) Sauer. He was a proud grandfather to McKenzie (Riley), Alexandra (Joe), Ashley, Nicholas, Evan (Jenna), Andrew, Benjamin, Olivia, and Julianna, and a loving great-grandfather to Teddy. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Harold R. and Betty (Spoor) Sauer and four siblings: Gretchen, Mary Louise, Warren, and Gordon. Harold's warmth, humor, and steady presence touched the lives of all who knew him. His spirit lives on in the memories he created and the legacy of love he leaves behind. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 10, 2025 from 2 – 6 pm at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, 48161, where funeral services, celebrating Harold's life will be held on Monday, August 11, 2025 at 10:30 am. Deacon Mike Stewart will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Harold's honor may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
