Harold "Sam" Sheffield, Jr., 74, of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away with his loving wife by his side, on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Arden Courts, Harrisburg.
Born on January 21, 1951 in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Harold and Margaret (Powell) Sheffield, Sr.
Sam was a 1969 graduate of Forbes Road High School, Waterfall, PA. He was a US Navy Veteran who served at Barbers Point Naval Air Station in Hawaii during the Vietnam War. Sam was a skilled upholsterer. He owned and operated the former Sam's Upholstery in Shippensburg, PA. He went on to use his upholstery skills while working at the Carlisle Barracks, eventually transitioning to working in the barracks maintenance department. He was a former member of Vibrant Church in Mechanicsburg, PA, and he and his wife are current members of Christian Life Assembly in Camp Hill, PA. When Sam wasn't working he enjoyed spending his free time flea marketing, buying/selling old cars, fishing, hiking, dancing, playing card games, playing his guitar & writing songs for his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Delores "Dee" (Hoffman) Sheffield, of Mechanicsburg, PA, a son, Nathan Reiser and his wife Andrea, of Wake Forest, NC, two sisters, Peggy Browning and her husband Tim, of Spring Run, PA, and Cynthia Houck and her husband Fred, of Robertsdale, PA, two grandchildren, Kylie and Aaron Reiser and many nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Jinx Engeldinger and Jackie Olsen, and two half siblings, Maynard Sheffield and Beverly Funkhouser.
A celebration of Sam's life will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at Christian Life Assembly, 2645 Lisburn Rd. Camp Hill, PA 17011. A visitation with Sam's family will be held on Thursday, from 10:00am until the start of the celebration of life.
