Harriet Wallace Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Boulding Mortuary, Inc. on Mar. 6, 2026.
Harriet Joanne Wallace, lovingly known as Harriet, Aunt Harriet, Auntie was the baby of the Sease family and she carried that role with sweetness and quiet charm. With red hair and freckles growing up, she somehow managed to get away with just a little more than the others.

She attended York City Schools and graduated from William Penn Senior High School.

She married the love of her life, James "Joe" Wallace, and they shared 64 beautiful years together. James adored Harriet and made sure she never had to work outside the home, allowing her to fully embrace being a devoted wife and mother.

Harriet never drove she walked everywhere. Many remember her faithfully walking across the College Avenue Bridge to visit her mother and sisters. Those walks were acts of love. She loved the lord, her family, Spaghetti with meatballs, Mc Donald's hamburger with the fries and a refreshing glass of ice cold ginger ale.

Soft-spoken but observant, Harriet didn't say much but when she did, it was honest and usually funny. One of her favorite sayings was, "HOT DAWG" She was the one cracking jokes, laughing at something before anyone else noticed it. It was easy to make her smile.

Over twenty years ago, Harriet and James moved to Cleo, Georgia, where they built a home together on acres of land. Though Georgia became home, she always missed her sisters and family in York. They made the trip back often.

In 2019, life shifted when James, living with undiagnosed advanced Alzheimer's, became disoriented and lost his way home. Harriet later returned to York permanently, where she was surrounded by family and embraced with love.

As her health declined, she required additional care. A special acknowledgment goes to her devoted caregiver, Loraine Simpson, who served with compassion, dignity, and selflessness. We also thank every caregiver who ensured Harriet received comfort and love.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Hospice team nurses, caseworkers, and chaplain who helped make this journey peaceful and beautiful.

Harriet was proceeded in death by her parents Ulysses "Moot" and Essie Sease two brothers, Brook Sease, Charles Sease, two sisters, Birdie Bailey, Mary Kinnard and her loving husband, James "Joe" Wallace She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters Angela Wallace Loretta Rice and a son David Wallace, two grandchildren Terrence Wallace (Carmen) of York and Jada Wallace of Lafayette, Louisiana, great grandchildren Amira Wallace of York Jahzyare, and a host of loved ones who will forever carry her light.
