Harriette Iddings left this world on September 13 at the age of 96, but her memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her. She taught us the true meaning of a life well-lived. Harriette was born in San Diego on August 1, 1929, the daughter of Mary Estelle Pepper of Denver, Colorado and David Rose of Russia. She was preceded in death by her only sibling Jacqueline in 1977. She attended local schools including San Diego State University. In 1949 she married William Iddings and had one child, a daughter, Devon, in 1951. She was divorced in 1962 and began a working career in many areas – San Diego Magazine, Psychology Today Magazine, UCSD Dept. of Chemistry and Dept. of Pediatrics. She retired from UCSD in 1984 and spent her years in retirement traveling, gardening, reading, walking, doing yoga, being with friends and her cats, Jeffie, Buddy and Jack. Mostly she was content and enjoyed life. Harriette is survived by her family in Kentucky and Indiana: daughter Devon (Don Gross), granddaughters Rachael Young and Melanie Gillenwater (Jason) and her five precious great-grandchildren Elijah, Kathryn, Liliana, Jack and Amelia; her niece Mel Greenberg (Dean) and great niece Marsha and husband Larry Ahern. Harriette will be deeply missed by her family and dear friends, especially Melinda, her partner in crime for the last decade. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please donate to the San Diego Zoo.
