Harris was born on October 24, 1945, in the Tibbs Community to Hallie Hughes and Lucille Hughes. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda Taylor Hughes, and together they began a long tradition of farming the land. They had two precious boys, Al and Patrick. Harris instilled in them a love for the land, love for life and above all a love for family. In their later years, they enjoyed their five grandsons and the laughter they brought to their lives.
Harris was awarded numerous honors and accolades for farming throughout the years. He was proud to have been written up in the Congressional Record, Farmers Journal Magazine as well as many other farmers publications. He was on the forefront and cutting edge of new and innovative farming and cotton ginning practices. As busy as he was, he always set aside time to mentor the next generation of young farmers.
Harris was a faithful and enthusiastic member of Christ Church. He was instrumental in the building of the church at its current location and enjoyed a long close friendship with Pastor Eddie Martin.
Harris’ most precious and treasured seeds were the seeds of family that he cultivated.
