Harry P. Felger

Harry Felger was born, a hundred years ago, in Philadelphia, PA to Elizabeth and Harry P. Felger, Sr. He entered into life on 10/31/2021 after a brief hospitalization at Falmouth Hospital.
He did undergraduate work and then medical school at Syracuse University. Following medical school, at the end of World War II, he was stationed in Brooklyn, NY and served as a transport surgeon. Married to Rosemary Stoody, they remained in Brooklyn after his service and raised their children, Vicki, Richard, and adopted daughter Sookie there.
As a General Surgeon, he was on staff at Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, NY for over 35 years. During his tenure, he was Rotating Chief of Surgery and Director of Medical Education in charge of interns and residents at the hospital. Additionally, he served on the Board of Trustees of Methodist Hospital.
The Felgers chose Mashpee for their retirement, and came here thirty-four years ago. Harry was an avid golfer and longtime member of The Club at New Seabury. He was an accomplished bridge player, active in the American Contract Bridge League and Upper Cape Bridge Club, not only as a player but also as a teacher and director. Also a very competent captain of the.ship, starting with the 33' Sea Witch which he sailed often from Brooklyn to Cape Cod, then the 42' Seascape in which he sailed from Cape Cod to St. Augustine, FL, and finally with the 22' catboat, the Cat's Meow---perfect for sunset sails and trips to the Vineyard. He was always ready to play chess with a friend, to enjoy an evening at the theater, and to pack a bag for yet another trip.
Harry is predeceased by his wife Rosemary and his son Richard. He is survived by his second wife Muriel, and his daughters, Vicki Voss of Islip, NY and Sookie Hunter (Mike) of Yarmouth, MA.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 12th at Chapman Funeral Home on Route 151 in Mashpee. The service will be preceded by a short calling period beginning at 1:30 PM. Following the service, friends and family are invited to a reception from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM at The Club at New Seabury, 95 Shore Drive, Mashpee, MA.
Harry's burial at the National Cemetery will be private for the family.
A special thank you is in order for Harry's caregiver, Juanita Leighton, and for the Falmouth Emergency Medical Team whose capable assistance made it possible for him to remain at home for almost all of his days.
