Harry George Hirth, aged 98, a long-time resident of Dublin, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, November 13th, 2025. Harry was born on August 9, 1927, to Henry Adam Hirth and Lois Whitaker Hirth of Dublin, Ohio. Harry married Lorraine McInnis on July 16, 1949. He graduated from Dublin High School in 1945, and with his brother, Roy, enjoyed attending the Dublin School Alumni Banquets. He was proud to be the oldest living Dublin graduate for the last few years; unfortunately, he was unable to attend the most recent banquet. Following high school, he was drafted into the US Army, serving in the Philippines and on Okinawa. Following his military service, he farmed part-time with his brother, Roy, and attended The Ohio State University. After graduating with an agricultural engineering degree from OSU in 1954, his entire career, before retiring in 1986, was with the USDA Soil Conservation Service, with relocations to Saginaw, MI, Cheboygan, MI, Flint, MI, and ending in Syracuse, NY. After retirement, he returned to Dublin, OH, to help with caring for his parents and his Aunt Elizabeth Hirth.
Harry was a local celebrity, known for his daily walks through Historic Dublin and across the pedestrian bridge. He loved watching the construction of all the new buildings, especially the new library and bridge. He enjoyed greeting people and answering questions about changes he had witnessed in Dublin. Harry also enjoyed woodworking, traveling with his brother, gardening, candy making, and helping anyone who needed help.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Adam Hirth and Lois Whitaker Hirth; his wife, Lorraine McInnes Hirth; his son, George Richard (Rick) Hirth; his brother, Roy Adam Hirth, and sister-in-law, Ruth Gugel Hirth; and his brothers- and sisters-in-law Elaine and Woody Nixon, Blanche and N.E. "Ike" Isaacson, Jeannine and Dan Gable, Bonnie and Carl Bucht, Lauchlan McInnes, and James McInnes.
Harry is survived by his daughter, Julie (Rudy) Capella and son, Steven Hirth; grandchildren Anthony "Tony" (Maureen) Hirth, Katherine, Debra, and Patrick Capella; great-grandchildren Mackenzie and Harrison "Harry" Hirth, and Matthew and Emma Capella; many wonderful nieces and nephews; sister-in-law JoEllen McInnes; long-time friend and neighbor, Evelyn Wirchainski; and friends on both sides of the Dublin pedestrian bridge.
Calling hours will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by services at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Dublin Community Church, 81 W. Bridge St., Dublin, OH. Burial will follow at Dublin Cemetery.
