Harry Lundy Obituary

Harry "Chip" Lewis Lundy, Jr, 81, of Ellicott City, Maryland, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 11, 2022 while surrounded by loved ones.

Chip was the loving husband of Cathy Lundy. Father of Laurie Lundy, Dianne (Scott) Heeter, Kerry (Chris) Burton. Brother of Vera Jones. "Daddy-Chip" to 8 grandchildren, Sarah Heeter, Jacob Heeter, Meghan Burton, Taylor Bean, Matthew Heeter, Joshua Burton, Brandon Bean and Benjamin Burton.

He faithfully served his family, church and community.

Chip was born on March 15, 1941 to Harry and Vera Lundy in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. He attended Camp Hill High School where he was captain of the Varsity Basketball Team and named First Team All-State and First Team All-Conference. Although Chip was drafted by several "Big Five" schools, including University of Kentucky, Chip understood the importance of education. Chip chose to go to Lafayette College to play basketball and study engineering. While at Lafayette he joined the Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

Chip graduated from Lafayette College in 1962 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Chip broke the school's basketball scoring record with a total of 1180 points and holds the school record for most career rebounds. He was inducted into the Lafayette's Sports Hall of Fame. In addition to being named the First Team All Middle Atlantic Conference, he was named to the AP All State First Team and All East Team. While Chip attended Lafayette, he received the Pepper Prize selected as the "Lafayette Ideal" senior.

Although Chip was drafted by several NBA teams, he decided to study Civil Engineering at Northwestern University, where he earned his Master's in Civil Engineering. Chip married his wife, Cathy in 1964 where they lived in Pittsburgh. Along with a full-time job, he attended The University of Pittsburgh and earned his Master's in Business.

Chip and his family moved to Columbia, Maryland in 1972, where he founded Columbia Builders with two business partners. It was in 1976 that Chip came to understand his own need for a personal relationship with God through Jesus. In the mid 80s Chip went out on his own and formed Williamsburg Homes, and later Patriot Homes in the early 90s. He lived by the motto "nothing beats a failure like a try". Chip's trust in God, determination and hard work led to the financial successes of both companies. What prepared Chip and Cathy to pursue their dreams and goals was a result of their commitment to God, country and their fundamental family values of hard work, honesty, drive, kindness, respect, compassion and responsibility.

Chip and Cathy felt strongly about giving back to the community to make it a better place to live, work and raise their three daughters, Laurie, Dianne, and Kerry. Chip was involved in numerous nonprofit and business boards including Chairman of Howard County General Hospital Board, Johns Hopkins Board of Trustees, Vice Chairman of Search Ministries, The Columbia Bank Founder and Director, Columbia Foundation Board, and the Howard Community College Education Foundation Board, just to name a few. He received the "Outstanding Corporate Citizen" Award from the Howard County Chamber of Commerce, honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Homebuilders Association of Maryland, and the "Good Scout" award from the Boy Scouts of America. Chip also received the "Leadership Legacy Award" from Leadership of Howard County.

In his free time, Chip very much enjoyed spending time at Deep Creek Lake with his wife, children and grandchildren.

I had the privilege of working for Chip in his early days in Columbia starting with Lundy/Greenfield management and then at Columbia Builders. I also had the pleasure of attending Bible studies in his home. It was a pleasure working for Chip. I have been blessed just by knowing him. RIP.

I had the privilege of working with Mr. Lundy when he was the Chairman of the Board of Howard County General Hospital. His generosity of time and resources, leadership, humility and commitment to his community were remarkable.
