Harry I. Magee

February 15, 1946 – January 8, 2026

Harry I. Magee, 79, passed away on January 8, 2026, at his home in Kansas City, Missouri.

Born in Hastings, Nebraska, to Dwight W. Magee and Virginia (Billings) Magee, Harry lived a life defined by service, loyalty, and an unmistakable warmth that drew people in and made them feel seen.

Harry was a beacon. A steady, beaming light whose presence filled rooms and whose kindness left a lasting imprint on everyone he encountered. His friendships ran long and deep, and those who knew him carry forward the mark of his generous soul.

He was the second of five siblings: Sharon Magee (Snodgrass) (deceased), Harry, Sandra Magee (deceased), Dwight Magee Jr., and David Magee.

Harry is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Diana K. Magee (Mitchell) of Rossville, Kansas; his daughter Heather L. Magee (Joe Burger); his son Patrick W. Magee and Patrick’s partner, Emily Neill.

And is also survived by his granddaughter Bridgett K. Neff-Hickman (Connor Hickman); and his cherished great-grandson, Roman Harry Morgan Hickman, whose middle name proudly carries his legacy.

A 1965 graduate of Ruskin High School, Harry proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Roosevelt in 1967.

His devotion to service continued at home, where he spent more than 50 years with the Kansas City Fire Department, retiring as a Captain in 1995 and later serving as Kansas City Fire Marshal, and his second retirement.

His career was not just a job, but a calling rooted in courage, leadership, and care for others.

Harry was deeply involved in the Boy Scouts of America for decades, mentoring generations with patience, integrity, and a quiet confidence.

He was also a passionate advocate for Muscular Dystrophy fundraising, giving his time and heart to causes larger than himself.

Outside of service, Harry found joy through his camera lens. An avid photographer, he attended markets and shows to share his work and was a proud member of the Lee’s Summit Photography Club.

He loved the calm of fishing, the challenge of golf, and remained a steadfast, unwavering fan of Nebraska football, loyal through every season.

Above all, Harry was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend, and mentor. His life was one of dedication, love, and presence. Though his absence is deeply felt, his spirit continues to guide those who loved him.
