Harry Raymond Niblock, age 102, of Haslett, formerly of Owosso and Howell, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 10, 2025. A graveside service at Pinetree Cemetery in Corunna will be announced.
Born on October 9, 1922, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, Harry's life was a tapestry of dedication, courage, and love. Harry's journey began as the second child born to Raymond and Pearl (Cameron) Niblock in the small town of Ypsilanti, where his character and values were shaped. Raised alongside his siblings; William, Arlene, Virginia, and Warren. He graduated from Howell High School where he was a proud member of the golf league. His commitment to service was evident early on when he entered the United States Army in 1942 at the age of 20. While he remained state-side he married Margaret Lucille Fay, on March 16, 1943 in Fort Knox before heading overseas.
During World War II, Harry served with distinction in Normandy, Northern France, and Rhineland, Germany. In 1944, while in Germany, he was wounded in action, a testament to his bravery and sacrifice. Despite his injuries, he continued to serve until his honorable discharge in 1946. For his valor and dedication, he was recognized with numerous awards, including the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with Three Bronze Campaign Stars, a Good Conduct Ribbon, the American Theatre Ribbon, a Purple Heart, and a Victory Ribbon.
Upon returning home from the war, Harry's life blossomed in new directions, he and Margaret welcomed two wonderful daughters into the world, Barbara and Susan. Harry's role as a father was marked by the same love and wisdom that he brought to every aspect of his life.
Professionally, Harry's strong work ethic and leadership skills took him into owning his own business in the construction industry in the 1950's. His colleagues and employees respected him for his fairness and knowledge, and he was known for his ability to solve any problem that came his way.
Harry's life was nothing short of amazing packed into 102 years! He was a loving husband to Margaret, a wise father, and a friend to many. He and Margaret loved golfing any chance they got. His sense of humor set him apart from most people and was enjoyable to visit with because he was so funny. He was a proud member of the Disabled American Veterans in Owosso where he was able to connect with other veterans who faithfully served their country. Growing up during the Great Depression set him apart from most people, he valued an honest days work and in turn this was matched with a dedicated and generous spirit. Those who knew Harry were touched by his warmth and his unwavering integrity.
He is survived by his devoted children, Barbara Bray and Susan (Kenneth) LaMay, who will forever cherish his memory; his grandchildren, Michelle Davis, Michael Bray, Keith LaMay, Brian (Rachelle) LaMay, Jody LaMay, Todd (Michele) LaMay, Holly (Brad) May, and Troy (Jennifer) LaMay; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Margaret who passed in 2011, and all four of his siblings.
The impact of his generation known as the "Greatest Generation" had on the world will not be forgotten, and his memory will be carried on in the hearts of those he touched.
