I will always remember how Mr. Porterfield helped an 8th grade girl who was interested in Television journalism with her career paper. I was a student at Roycemore school in Evanston and I along with my father and sister went down to the Channel 2 news room on Mc Clurg court and interviewed him. He couldn't have been more gracious.

Clearly Harry Porterfield was "Someone You Should Know" and I´m glad I did. Your light shined bright on this earth and will continue to illuminate the heavens through all eternity.
My deepest condolences to the family.

I knew Harry as a faithful attendee at St Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Gary. He always enjoyed Sunday mass with his family. He was a friendly gentleman with a smooth melodious voice who left a favorable impression upon everyone he met. Harry will be sorely missed by his church family. He always had a ready smile upon his face when he interacted with others. May his family find comfort in the knowledge that Harry was loved and respected by many as a charming tv personality who touched numerous lives by sharing stories about ordinary , everyday people. He was certainly “someone you should know.”
