Harry Zirkel Obituary

Born April 9, 1930, in Jamaica, NY, he was the son of the late Harry J. and Gladys Ploch Zirkel. His wife is the former Virginia Scalera.
Harry served in the US Navy and continued to work on the water in the boiler room of ships traveling to Cuba among other places many times. He retired from New York City Department of Education in 1992 as a stationary engineer.
Harry loved all aspects of maritime life. He enjoyed sailing for over 40 years as well as operating his powerboat. Harry had been an active member of the local Masonic Lodge in New York.
Survivors in addition to his wife include five children, Harry J. Zirkel and his wife Jeannie of Massapequa, NY, Cindy Cataldo of CT, Michael Zirkel and his wife Erin of CT, Lori Ann Torres and her husband Leo of Westbury, NY and Alison Jasiak and her husband Stephen of Howard Beach, NY; 12 grandchildren, Leo, Sophia, Gregory, Sal, Anthony, Vinny, Vito, Stephen, Andrew, Brian, Lauren and Jennifer; and a sister, Darrice Holochwost of Coram, NY. He was preceded in death by a grandson Eric.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 11 at Holloway Funeral Home, Salisbury. Visitation will be from 1:30-2:00 PM at the funeral home.
