Harvey Pritchett, Jr., 87, of
Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, soldier, and friend, Harvey led a life marked by service, humility, and quiet strength.
Born on July 6, 1938, in Woodbury, New Jersey, Harvey's journey took him from humble beginnings to the highest ranks of enlisted service in the U.S. Army. He retired with distinction after more than 37 years of service in the Army National Guard, culminating in his appointment as Command Sergeant Major (CSM) - a position reserved for those who exemplify leadership, excellence, and unwavering dedication. Throughout his career, he earned numerous commendations, including Outstanding Army First Sergeant – HHC 150th CBT AVN BN (1985), Outstanding Army NG First Sergeant Award – HSC 1st BN 150th AVN (1988), and his appointment to Command Sergeant Major in 1990.
Beyond his military career, Harvey was a man of many passions. He was a proud member of his church and known for his deep love of music - especially jazz. A world-class fixer of just about anything, Harvey could always be found with tools in hand or tending to his famously pristine yard. His neighbors will remember seeing him on his daily walks, a familiar and comforting presence in the community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and William Tucker; his first wife, JoeAnn Pritchett; his sister, Jean Smith; and his brother, Horace Pritchett.
Harvey leaves behind his beloved wife, Carol Pritchett; his children, Vance Pritchett (Donna Carney-Pritchett), Gregory Marshall (Lisa Marshall), Jacqueline Santos, and Chad Pritchett; his sister, Joan Abdullah; grandchildren Olita Pritchett, Vance Pritchett, Jr., Bree Pritchett, Zachary Marshall (Mahera), Quincy Marshall, and Matthew Marshall; great grandchildren Xavier Pritchett, Sophia Pritchett, Journee McKillian, and Tylee McKillian; and many other extended family members, friends, and fellow servicemembers who will miss him dearly.
A celebration of Harvey's life will be held on July 19 at 1pm at Saint Bede Catholic Church in Williamsburg. The family will receive visitors beginning at 12pm. Burial with military honors will take place at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery on July 28th at 10am.
Harvey lived his life with honor, kindness, and integrity, always putting others before himself. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched, the family he loved, and the example he set. Though he has marched his final post, his spirit will forever walk beside us.
