Harvey Milton "Jim" Reed passed from the physical world to the spiritual world on August 12th, 2024. Jim lived the majority of his 93 years in Cammack, Indiana and was proceeded in death by his parents; Amelia Leola Florence (Howell) Reed and Havey Washington Reed as well as six siblings.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 71 years Leeta Ruth (Gilreath) Reed and two children Vicki Lynn Myers of Bloomington, Indiana and Jim De Wayne Reed of Land O' Lakes Florida as well as seven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
Jim lived his life always offering a helping hand to those in need; whether working on cars or mowing yards. Jim moved to Cammack at four years old and at age ten he built a wooden wagon to go house to house offering to haul their trash for 10 cents a load. An example of the life-long work ethic that has been passed on through his life lessons. Jim enjoyed bowling with the Odd Fellows I.O.O.F # 354 of Yorktown as well as working outside in the yard, mowing, and working in the garden. He enjoyed working on cars, fishing, spending quality time with family and being a greeter at Cammack Methodist Church.
Jim spent the majority of his working life at Warner Gear as a quality inspector on the Mercury Marine Line. Despite his responsibilities to provide for his family. Jim deserves to have his many years of fatherly love honored.
He was a straight shooter, a man of integrity and a person generous of his time to help others. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have comfort knowing that Jim's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever, including his love for eagles and Corvettes. His last Vet was the red one pictured on his gravestone.
A funeral service to celebrate Jim's life will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel, 2215 S. Broadway St. in Yorktown. Pastor Glen Perkins will officiate. Burial will follow in Hawk Cemetery.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions to the Cammack Methodist Church under the name of Jim Reed may be offered.
