Hassel J. Cunningham, age 87, passed away peacefully in the morning hours on Saturday, October 18, 2025, in Newnan, GA. Hal, as he was known by friends and family, was born in Randolph County, Alabama, to the late J.B. Cunningham and Thelma Lee Cunningham.
A devoted father, loyal friend, and proud Bulldog, he lived a life marked by integrity, hard work, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of the outdoors.
Hal was a man who believed in doing things the right way-often with his hands, always with heart. He could fix just about anything, and if he didn't know how, he'd figure it out. Whether he was working in the garage, helping a neighbor, or passing on his knowledge, his quiet strength and steady hands told the story of a life well lived. An avid outdoorsman, he found peace and purpose in the woods. Hunting wasn't just a hobby; it was a tradition, a way to connect with nature, with others, and with himself. He believed in respect for the land, patience in the chase, and gratitude for the harvest. He was also a lifelong fan of the Georgia Bulldogs. Fall Saturdays meant family, friends, and football. His love for UGA was unwavering-win or lose, red and black ran deep in his veins.
Hal leaves behind Daughters, Nicole Cunningham Holmes, Melissa Cunningham Traylor; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind siblings, Donna Thompson, Janice Jordan, Glenn Cunningham, and Bill Cunningham.
