Hattie Mathis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Troy B. Smith Professional Services on Dec. 30, 2024.
Hattie Marie Gibbons-Mathis was born on August 25, 1951 to Henry Henderson Gibbons Jr. of Yoakum, TX and Bernice Wallace Hansford of Shiner, TX.
Hattie Marie joined Johnson Chapel Methodist Church at an early age where she also attended school in Shiner, TX. She later married Retavious Mathis Sr. of Shiner, TX and moved to Houston, TX. She worked at Holly Hall Nursing Home for years and then went into private duty care with Girling Health Care.
Hattie was a sociable person who enjoyed life and loved her family and friends dearly. She was a fun and loving person, a jokester, sarcastic, vibrant, and loved to smile. She was as strong black woman, tough natured. She always said that she was our mother hen and we was her lilchicks. Whenever we ran into any type of trouble, we could always run back to her and hide under her wings and she would protect us.
After more than 45 years in Houston, TX she returned to Shiner, TX where she lived until her passing.
Hattie Marie leaves to morn her four kids, Letha Gibbons of Houston, TX, Retavious Mathis Jr. (Yulanda) of Dimebox, TX, Dacqueline Yarbrough (Tyrone) of Manvel, TX and Arnetra Mathis of Houston, TX, Eleven Grandkids, 10 Great-Grandkids, 2 Step-Grandkids, 1 Step-Great GrandKids, a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Hattie Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Henry Henderson Gibbons Jr. and Bernice Wallace Hansford, Grandparents James (Buster) Wallace and Emma Wallace, Brother Henry Henderson Gibbons III., Sister Leona (Tumpy) Curtis and Sister, Lenore Denise Hights.
