Hazel Blanks Obituary

Hazel "Janet" Blanks passed away Saturday, November 11, 2023. She was born in Columbia, SC to the late Mary A. and Carlisle Blanks. She graduated from the University of South Carolina, served in the American Red Cross during the Vietnam War on hospital ships, and retired from DHEC. She was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, where she was the church organist for forty years.
Funeral services and Trisagion (prayers) will be held at Thompsons Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Rd. Columbia, SC on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 1:00 pm. After the burial a reception will be held in the funeral home.
Surviving are her sister, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1931 Sumter St. Columbia, SC 292001 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

I was so very sorry to hear about Janet. When I was 12 and joined the choir at Holy Trinity she was playing the organ. We became great friends. I loved her and her family. May her memory be eternal.
