Hazel Elizabeth Everett, went home to join her King at 96 years of age on April 6, 2024, having been lovingly cared for in her own home in Horseheads, New York.
Hazel was born and raised in Elmira Heights, New York, and attended two years at Mansfield University. She married, moved to Gang Mills, then South Corning, and eventually took up residence on Country Estates of Horseheads, New York, where she remained since 1957.
Although she had a number of jobs throughout the years, she would no doubt agree that her biggest accomplishment was raising her eight children and seeing both grandchildren and great-grandchildren come into the world. Her home was the hub of every family gathering, and she was the glue that held her large family together. Family picnics and pool parties, holiday meals and celebrations, birthdays and showers all centered around her home, and she always seemed most happy when she was feeding her family. Indeed, it could be said that food was her "love language," and her brownies, pies, and half-moon cookies were especially coveted by the family at these occasions. She made it her business to keep her freezer always well-stocked with popsicles, fudgies, and ice cream for the family.
She was the second youngest of 8 children, all of whom have predeceased her. She is also predeceased by her husband George, her granddaughter Shontae, and her great-grandson Jaromil (Kevin and Hannah) Patrick.
She is survived by Sandra (Henry) Arevalo, Candace Stull, Donald (Sandra) Patrick, Diane (Gene) Thomas, Sheryl Patrick, Gary Patrick, Barbara (Steve) Broutman, Nancy McLaurin, 69 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and several devoted nieces and nephews.
Hazel was a woman of faith, whose lifelong desire was to see her children and their offspring follow the Lord and attend church faithfully. She attended faithfully herself, most recently calling Breesport Baptist her church home. She enjoyed listening to messages on television and participated in ladies Bible studies. She found great joy and comfort in the old hymns of the faith.
An open service celebrating her amazing life and the legacy she left will be held on May 4, 2024 at Breesport Baptist Church, 1799 N. Chemung Road, Breesport, New York. The family will begin receiving guests at 12:00 noon and the service will follow beginning at 1:00pm. The service will be live-streamed for those who cannot attend. Please reach out to the family to obtain the livestream link.
In addition, all are invited to attend a graveside service in her memory on May 20 at 1:00 at Rural Home Cemetery in Big Flats, New York.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any one of the following charitable organizations, of which Hazel was passionate:
Renovation House (renovationhouse.org)
Samaritan's Purse (samaritanspurse.org)
Andrew and Anna Smith (listed as missionaries on Ethnos360.org)
