Hazel B. Jones, age 74, of the Smithtown Community, passed away Friday, February 13, 2026, at her home.
Hazel was born in Ritner, Kentucky, on March 22, 1951, the daughter of the late Samuel Tate and Nancy Jane (Jones) Phillips. She dedicated much of her life to serving the community as a Secretary for the McCreary County School System, working at Smithtown, Stearns, and Pine Knot Elementary Schools. Hazel was also a devoted member of the First Hickory Grove Baptist Church.
She had a love for traveling and taking car rides, but her greatest joy came from spending time talking and laughing with others — a true gift she shared with everyone she met.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry D. Jones; sons, Sean Jones and Brock Jones; 20 brothers and sisters; and grandchildren, Luke Troxell and Jamie Murphy.
Hazel is survived by her daughters, Sylvia Murphy (Wallace) of Monticello, Kentucky, and Cynthia Troxell (Wayne) of Stearns, Kentucky. She is also survived by grandchildren Matt, Zack, Tasha, Cassie, Jordan, Erica, Sam, Tadessa, Shadara, and Maria; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, Mia; special niece, Barb Gregory; special friends, Rhonda Kendziorski, Vicky Coffey, and Julie Helton; and a host of family and friends of which are to numerous to name.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Eddie King and her grandson, Zack Troxell, officiating. Burial will follow in the Rock Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the Funeral Home.
